Edgar Moreau, youth at the service of genius

‌For her first concert at the head of our orchestra, the amazing Japanese conductor Nodoka Okisawa invites us to follow, with a Smetana more romantic than ever, the course of the river which crosses Prague, The Moldau . The young French cellist Edgar Moreau joins her for the splendid Concerto Korngold . The lyrical flights respond to the rhythmic convulsions in this work which, created in Los Angeles in 1946, takes up themes composed for the film Deception with Bette Davis, where a cellist plays the main role in a tragic love story. After the lyrical and poignant depth of the three scenes of Bloch's From Jewish Life , let's return to the United States, where Dvořák spent four years directing the New York Conservatory.

First performed at Carnegie Hall in 1893, his Ninth Symphony , today the composer's best-known piece, was inspired by native songs. Finally, the famous finale lets us imagine the greatness of the feelings once instilled in Europeans by the idea of a New World which, free and disproportionate, remained to be conquered.

Programme
Bedřich Smetana : La Vltava
Erich Wolfgang Korngold: Cello Concerto Opus 37 started life in the movie DECEPTION
Ernest Bloch : From Jewish life
Antonín Dvořák: Symphony No. 9 "From the New World"
