Program Info:
Norddeutschen Philharmonie Rostock
Marcus Bosch, conductor
Andreas Boyde, piano

The first concert of the new year begins with a bang with the overture to George Gershwin's musical Girl Crazy . First performed on Broadway in 1930, the stage work is about New York entertainer Danny Churchill, who transforms an inherited ranch in Arizona into a kind of second Las Vegas.
Gershwin's compatriot Paul Schoenfield's piano concerto Four Parables is inspired by real situations and circumstances and mixes different musical styles. The pianist Andreas Boyde, who comes from Saxony and lives in Australia, who played the European premiere of the virtuoso concerto, will also take on the solo part in Rostock.
After the break, chief conductor Marcus Bosch will present a blend of tradition and modernity with Wolfgang Korngold's symphony, written in the 1950s. young man in Vienna with his opera Die tote Stadt Korngold, who became known as a and later had to emigrate, found his great career in Hollywood in the field of film. His symphony was also inspired by one of his numerous film scores: It is based on the soundtrack to the 1939 film The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex .
