School concert »Slapstick to the power of three!«
Staatskapelle Weimar conducted by Frank Strobel - National Theater Weimar, Großes Haus
Program Info: Laurel & Hardy: »Big Business«, Music: Jens Tröster, 2018 Laurel & Hardy: »Liberty« (»The Trouser Case«), Music: Jens Tröster, 2018 Charlie Chaplin: »Pay Day« (»Zahltag«), Musik: Charlie Chaplin
Comedy and slapstick in silent films? Without the appropriate musical accompaniment, the whole thing would definitely only be half as funny! Emotion meets situational comedy brilliantly set in sound and scene, and some twists and turns only really have an effect with the appropriate percussion effects. In Chaplin's »Pay Day« we accompany the construction worker Charlie, who maneuvers his way through hard working days with great difficulty and prefers to go to the club after work to hand over his wages to the wife who is waiting with the rolling pin. One mishap follows the next - but sometimes everything goes wrong...
The comedian duo Laurel & Hardy also knew how to tell of the hardships and hardships of the little man, who tries to keep himself and his family afloat with ever new creative ideas, in a wonderfully true-to-life and at the same time ultra-funny way. Selling Christmas trees in sunny California? Or fleeing the police on a skyscraper construction site? We catch some of the coolest moments from Stan & Ollie's screen career tonight at DNT.
We are once again looking forward to working with the internationally renowned film music specialist Frank Strobel for this extraordinary silent film collage, whose expertise and rousing enthusiasm for the genre has made the silent film concert one of the highlights in the Staatskapelle Weimar’s concert calendar for many years.
