17 March 2024 München (Munich) (Germany)
Korngold - Weill - Gershwin - Bernstein
Münchner Philharmoniker conducted by Wayne Marshall - Isarphilharmonie, Gasteig HP8
Program Info: Exactly 100 years ago, George Gershwin caused a sensation in the concert hall with the world premiere of his »Rhapsody in Blue«: With his »Jazz Concerto« he gave his home country the long-awaited genuine American masterpiece and himself world fame. WAYNE MARSHALL, who already gave an acclaimed concert with jazz in orchestral sound in the opening season of the Isarphilharmonie, now presents the »Rhapsody in Blue« in a personal union as conductor and soloist. Leonard Bernstein continued what Gershwin exemplified with his fleet-footed style transitions between jazz and classical music. His suite for the film "On the Waterfront" also contains a genre transition from film to concert music. In the first half of the concert, two European composers, Kurt Weill and Erich Wolfgang Korngold, who celebrated successes on Broadway and Hollywood after emigrating to the USA, will be heard.
Erich Wolfgang Korngold - "Kings Row" -Suite from the music of the movie Kurt Weill - "Symphonic Nocturne" from "Lady in the Dark" (concert suite arranged by Robert Russell Bennett)
