Nürnberger Symphoniker conducted by Daniel Boico - Meistersingerhalle
Program Info: Nürnberger Symphoniker Daniel Boico, conductor Julian Steckel, cello
"That sounds like Hollywood film music," Anne-Sophie Mutter is said to have remarked disdainfully when she recorded Korngold's Violin Concerto with her then-husband André Previn in 2003. He contradicted: "No, it's the other way around - Hollywood film music sounds like Korngold!" He is right! And the same goes for Rachmaninoff. The truth is that Korngold, with his concert works and many soundtracks, left a lasting mark on the symphonic-romantic Hollywood sound, and that Rachmaninoff's music is still exploited by Hollywood composers. The third in the group is Nino Rota, the "house composer" of the legendary Italo directors Fellini and Visconti. In addition to his countless film scores, he also wrote works for the concert hall. Julian Steckel, not least a specialist in 20th-century cello literature, plays his Cello Concerto No. 2 with us. It will be conducted by Daniel Boico, designated leader of the Free State Symphony Orchestra in Bloemfontein, South Africa, and a welcome guest with the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra.
