Rock ’n’ Roll & Revolution
National Symphony Orchestra of Washington conducted by Gianandrea Noseda - Alte Oper, Großer Saal
Program Info: National Symphony Orchestra Washington Gianandrea Noseda, conductor Hilary Hahn, violin
"Quasi rock 'n' roll" is the final movement of Erich Wolfgang Korngold's violin concerto, Hilary Hahn enthuses - and she should know: After all, the evergreen has long been part of the likeable American violinist's repertoire. Korngold, a rock 'n' roller? Definitely a revolutionary! In the 1930s, his soundtracks proved to be a godsend for the burgeoning US film industry. And Korngold's violin concerto also breathes Hollywood and widescreen sound. Revolution, Ludwig van Beethoven could do that too. With his "Eroica" in 1803 he entered new symphonic territory. For Gianandrea Noseda, Music Director of the National Symphony Orchestra since 2017, Beethoven's Third is full of musical surprises. According to the Italian maestro, only Beethoven was capable of a revolutionary masterpiece like this. According to Noseda, all you need to rate the "Eroica" is one adjective: "Incredible!" (Pro Arte Frankfurt)
Erich Wolfgang Korngold - Violin Concerto in D major op. 35, the concerto has themes from the scores for the movies ANOTHER DAWN (1937), ANTHONY ADVERSE (1936) & THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER (1937) Ludwig van Beethoven - Symphony No. 3 in E flat major op. 55 "Eroica"
