»Rock ’n’ Roll & Revolution«
National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Gianandrea Noseda - Kölner Philharmonie
Program Info: National Symphony Orchestra Gianandrea Noseda, conductor Hilary Hahn, violin
"Quasi Rock 'n' Roll" is the final movement of Erich Wolfgang Korngold's Violin Concerto, Hilary Hahn enthuses. And maybe Korngold was actually a rock 'n' roller at heart? Because just like rock 'n' roll revolutionised dance music in the 1950s, Korngold revolutionised the still young film music in Hollywood in the 1930s. His imaginative first symphony proved that Dmitri Shostakovich was also capable of revolution – in the fifth, however, he felt compelled to exercise restraint. At the height of Stalinist terror, Shostakovich created a work that satisfied even the most critical censors with its heroic gesture and triumphant ending.
Erich Wolfgang Korngold - Concerto for violin and orchestra in D major op. 35, the concerto has themes from the scores for the movies ANOTHER DAWN (1937), ANTHONY ADVERSE (1936) & THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER (1937)
