Star Wars: The Force Awakens in concert
21st Century Orchestra conducted by Ludwig Wicki - KKL
Program Info: John Williams - Star Wars: The Force Awakens
With "The Force Awakens", one of the most successful films of all time, the sequel to Episode VI is coming to the KKL Luzern for the first time and, as the beginning of the latest "Star Wars" trilogy, joins the successful concert series of "Star Wars in concert». The 21st Century Orchestra, conducted by Ludwig Wicki, brings the sound world of John Williams to the cult blockbuster acoustically to life on the big screen. Actually, everything seemed to be told in «Return of the Jedi»... The Emperor defeated, Darth Vader redeemed, the rebellion triumphed over the cruel empire - and in the end there was even a Jedi knight named Luke Skywalker.
More than 30 years after the glorious end of the original trilogy, the father of the saga, George Lucas, gave up all rights to the "Walt Disney" film empire - a bang. With the new film studio, a new generation entered the galactic playing field of star battles in 2015 in «The Force Awakens». In Episode VII, young Rey joins pilot Poe Dameron and Stormtrooper Finn in search of the roots of her mysterious origins, leading them to rebel against Supreme Commander Kylo Ren and his imperial terror regime. Due to Darth Vader's grandfather's legacy, he has fallen under the spell of the sinister Snoke.
Of course, a complete "Star Wars" concert includes a reunion with favourites like Han Solo, Leia, Chewbacca, C-3PO and R2-D2 as well as the familiar sounds of the genre-defining, classically influenced soundtrack by John Williams. The composer stayed true to the series and also created galactic film music for the new trilogy. The numerous musical leitmotifs of the cosmic saga take the audience emotionally to distant galaxies. When light sabers light up the screen and the millennium falcon whizzes in your ears, eyes of all ages light up!
