Film+MusikFest Bielefeld: Der Golem, wie er in die Welt kam
Braunschweiger Staatsorchester conducted by Burkhard Goetze - Rudolf-Oetker-Halle
Program Info: Hans Landsberger - Der Golem, wie er in die Welt kam
As a symphonic premiere in cooperation with our long-term partner Staatsorchester Braunschweig and the Munich Film Museum, we are showing the definitive restoration of the expressionist classic »The Golem, as he came into the world«. For the first time in 90 years, the premiere music by Hans Landsberger, which has long been considered lost, will be performed with large orchestra accompaniment under the musical direction of Burkhard Goetze. Richard Siedhoff, like Goetze a guest of the FMF for years, rediscovered the piano direction in 2018 with fragmentary parts and reconstructed the orchestral version. Regular guests of the FMF will remember the performance of »Golem« under the direction of Günter A. Buchwald with the clarinettist Giora Feidman...
The Prague ghetto in the 16th century: To protect his community, Rabbi Löw creates a powerful clay figure, the Golem, and breathes life into it with magical powers, because the Emperor has issued a decree that forces the Jews to leave the city . But when Löw's assistant wants to abuse this artificial human for his own purposes, the golem runs amok and sets the city on fire. Who can stop the golem?
