Rochester Symphony Orchestra conducted by Jere Lantz - Chatfield Potter Auditorium
Program Info: Nearing his last concert with Rochester Symphony, Maestro Lantz brings us a sampling of selections foundational to his artistic development and career. As Wagner’s Die Meistersinger was the first orchestra piece he ever conducted it made a formative impression on him as a conducting student. He has taken it with him to every new orchestra he conducts, and thus was the first piece on the first program he conducted at Rochester Symphony in 1980. The short but dazzling Walton Suite from Henry V is included for his sheer love of the piece. We’ll complete the program with Brahms’ Symphony No. 2, Maestro’s favorite composer and symphony of all time.
Richard Wagner - Overture to Die Meistersinger William Walton - Suite from Henry V from the 1944 movie by Laurence Olivier (original title: The Chronicle history of King Henry the Fifth with his Battle fought at Againcourt in France) Johannes Brahms - Symphony No. 2
