Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock conducted by Stefan Geiger - Volkstheater Rostock
Program Info: North German Philharmonic Orchestra Rostock Stefan Geiger, conductor Anna-Liisa Bezrodny, violin
The second Philharmonic concert of the season begins with a film drama: The Red Violin . In 2003 the American John Corigliano composed this concerto based on his music for the film of the same name (director: François Girard), which won an Oscar in 2000 – his first concerto for his first love, the violin . The violinist Anna-Liisa Bezrodny, who was born in Moscow and grew up in Finland, will make her debut in Rostock after the performances planned in recent years could not take place due to the pandemic. Conducted by Hamburg conductor Stefan Geiger, music director of the Orquestra Sinfônica do Paraná in Curitiba, Brazil, this concert is also dedicated to Johannes Brahms, who was born in Alsterstadt. His Symphony No. 2, composed in just four months in 1877 at Lake Wörthersee, became one of his greatest successes. With its lyrical tone and at the same time its structural density, it was compared to Beethoven's Pastorale and was immediately taken as proof that that one can still write symphonies after Beethoven (Eduard Hanslick).
John Corigliano: The Red Violin Concerto for violin and orchestra (2003), based on the music for the 1998 movie of the same name by François Girard Johannes Brahms: Symphony No. 2 D-Up. 73
