The Mikis Theodorakis Orchestra celebrates the legacy of one of Greece's greatest composers, performing songs and compositions spanning a career spanning more than 70 years.

Mikis Theodorakis' style is absolutely unmistakable, oscillating between traditional Greek styles, classical composition and contemporary music - all terms too restrictive to capture his sound. Using Greek poetry and folk instruments such as the bouzouki in his compositions, he made a strong and lasting impression on 20th-century culture. Around the world, Theodorakis enlivened and inspired millions of fans with both his music and his political activism - with his firm stance that earned him stints in prison and exile. Particularly well-known for his film music “Zorba the Greek”, Theodorakis left a complete body of work with chamber music, operas, symphonies and almost 1,000 songs. The Mikis Theodorakis Orchestra is conducted by his daughter Margarita, musicians include his grandsons Angelos and Margarita Theodorakis. The orchestra was founded in May 1997 by its musicians and friends.

Bouzouki Instrumentalists: Thanasis Vasilas, Giannis Matsoukas
