Classical Beat Festival: Gustavo Santaolalla
Gustavo Santaolalla and his band - Musik- und Kongresshalle Lübeck (MUK)

Program Info:
The highlight of this year's festival program is Gustavo Santaolalla, Argentinian musician, music producer, songwriter and two-time Oscar winner for best film music, coming to Lübeck. Together with his band and for the first time with the Classical Beat Orchestera, he presents his program "Desandando El Camino" at the MuK.

The Argentinian is considered a pioneer in the fusion of rock and Latin American folk. For this purpose he uses traditional instruments such as the "Charango" or the "Ronroco" without conforming to a common South American cliché. In addition to his six solo albums, which earned him 16 Latin Grammys, Santaolalla has also achieved great success through his work as a producer and film music composer. With his compositions for films like "Brokeback Mountain" or "Babel" Santaolalla even received two Oscars and his music in games like "The Last of Us" was also awarded in the gaming sector.

For the concert at the CLASSICAL BEAT Festival there is also a premiere for Santaolalla. With his seven-piece band, he will explore new worlds of sound with the CLASSICAL BEAT ORCHESTRA. For this merging of the band with the orchestra, conducted by the well-known French saxophonist, flutist and conductor Pierre Bertrand, own arrangements are worked out and rehearsed together shortly before the festival.

The renowned professor not only has an impressive curriculum vitae, but also inspires with his colourful, bewitching and unexpected jazz music. In 1998 he founded the Paris Jazz Big Band with Nicolas Folmer and received prestigious prizes such as the "Victoire du Jazz" and the "Django d'Or". Bertrand currently directs the Nice Jazz Orchestra and has also been a guest conductor in numerous countries (Venezuela, Argentina, Denmark) and TV shows. The composer, born in Nice in 1972, is also responsible for numerous orchestral arrangements for André Ceccarelli, Jean-Pierre Como, Diego Imbert, as well as Claude Nougaro, Charles Aznavour, Murray Head and Maurane.

The combination of a Latin American star band and young, up-and-coming musicians from France and Germany promises to be musical fireworks! A premiere that not only fans can look forward to.

The CLASSICAL BEAT Festival takes place for the sixth time and repeatedly in Travemünde. From 21st to 31st July, the connection between classical, jazz and traditional Latin American music will be celebrated under the motto "Leinen Los Nach Latinamerica".
