Program Info: Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra Joana Mallwitz, conductor Liza Ferschtman, violin
Kurt Weill is best known for his revolutionary musical theatre. In 1921, long before his American exile, he wrote his first »Berlin« symphony. Eight years earlier, Igor Stravinsky had shaken the European cultural world with one of the most scandalous premieres in music history and thus written a work of the century that owes its timelessness to its indomitable, archaic energy: Le sacre du printemps. Joana Mallwitz, the General Music Director of the Nuremberg State Theater, will conduct the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra for the first time. Liza Ferschtman, who has achieved international success with her charismatic playing, expressiveness and sensitivity, will perform Erich Wolfgang Korngold's only violin concerto, which premiered in America in 1947.
Program Kurt Weill - Symphony No. 1 Erich Wolfgang Korngold - Concerto for violin and orchestra in D major op. 35, the concerto has themes from the scores for the movies ANOTHER DAWN (1937), ANTHONY ADVERSE (1936) & THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER (1937)
