Out of the Golden Age of Hollywood comes a gem of a violin concerto by the pioneering film composer Erich Korngold. The Dutch virtuoso violinist Simone Lamsma makes her Festival debut. Also, Carlos Kalmar conducts the revolution-inspired Symphony No. 11, The Year 1905 by Dmitri Shostakovich, a piece so vivid, it's sometimes called the "film score without a film."
