Film Fest Gent: World Soundtrack Awards Gala & Concert with Mark Isham
Brussels Philharmonic conducted by Dirk Brossé - Muziekcentrum De Bijloke
Program Info: Film Fest Ghent welcomes Mark Isham as guest of honour at the 22nd World Soundtrack Awards.
On Saturday 22 October 2022, Film Fest Ghent is proud to welcome the versatile American film composer and jazz artist Mark Isham as guest of honour of the 22nd edition of the World Soundtrack Awards. Isham's outstanding musical voice can be heard in the memorable scores for the numerous films on which he collaborated, such as Judas and the Black Messiah by Shaka King, Crash by Paul Haggis and Nell by Michael Apted which received a Golden Globe nomination for ‘Best Original Score’. Mark Isham also scored A River Runs Through It (Robert Redford) which received an Oscar nomination for 'Best Music' and a Grammy nomination for ‘Best Instrumental Composition for a Feature Film’. For Brian De Palma’s The Black Dahlia, Isham was awarded 'Best Score' by the International Film Music Critics Association.
In October 2022, Film Fest Ghent brings the cream of the international film music crop together in Ghent again, this time in De Bijloke, for the award ceremony of the 22nd World Soundtrack Awards. The festival is delighted to announce Mark Isham as guest of honour. The Brussels Philharmonic, conducted by maestro Dirk Brossé, will play a selection of works by Mark Isham and by Nainita Desai (winner of the Discovery of the Year Award 2021) during the presentation of the film music awards.
Film Fest Ghent will also dedicate its annual Music for Film album to Mark Isham’s body of work. The composer’s music will be performed by the Brussels Philharmonic and conducted by Film Fest Ghent music director Dirk Brossé. Mark Isham himself will play the trumpet. The album will be released in the run-up to the 22nd World Soundtrack Awards.
And some joyous news! At the 22nd edition of the World Soundtrack Awards - the annual film music awards of Film Fest Ghent - the French composer Bruno Coulais will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to film music. Coulais composed the music for the magnificent nature documentary Microcosmos (1996), the big hit Les choristes (2005) and the Irish folklore trilogy of the animation studio Cartoon Saloon (The Secret of Kells, Song of the Sea and Wolfwalkers), among others.
Together with Mark Isham and Nainita Desai, he will be one of the central guests at the World Soundtrack Awards. The World Soundtrack Awards will be presented at the end of the 49th Film Fest Ghent during a ceremony and concert on Saturday 22 October.
