Modern Times
WDR Funkhausorchester conducted by Frank Strobel - Alte Oper, Großer Saal

Program Info:
Charles Chaplin Arr. Timothy Brock - Modern Times
(USA 1936, D.: Charles Chaplin)

It is one of the most iconographic images in film history: Charlie Chaplin, caught between the cogs of an inexorably running machine, stands for the pitfalls of progress in a tragi-comic way. For the Fratopia Festival, the Alte Oper is bringing the film classic “Modern Times” to the big screen – with the original soundtrack played live, penned by the master himself: after all, Charles Spencer Chaplin was not only the author, producer, director and leading actor, but also his own composer. "Charlie Chaplin is a great character in general, he is the great genius of the last century, also in its variety," says film music expert Frank Strobel, who directs the WDR Funkhausorchester.
