Korngold's Violin Concerto
Brno Philharmonic conducted by Dennis Russell Davies - Großes Festspielhaus

Program Info:
Brno Philharmonic
Dennis Russell Davies, conductor
Milan Pala, violin

On the occasion of the 125th birthday of the great Austrian late romantic Erich Wolfgang Korngold, who was born in Brno, was a child prodigy in Vienna and died in Los Angeles as the inventor of symphonic film music, his tonally sensual, melodic and virtuoso violin concerto, composed during his emigration to the USA, will be performed . This is how the internationally acclaimed Slovak violinist Milan Pala introduces himself in the concert of the Brno Filharmonie in the Great Festival Hall. The framework of this concert is formed by two important and stirring works by Czech composers. Antonín Dvořák, one of the grand masters of Romanticism, depicts Othello's mental anguish in his concert overture. The Moravian Leoš Janáček, who lived in Brno and is one of the “classics of modernity”, dedicates his fascinatingly dramatic tone poem “Taras Bulba” to the seething passions of Russian heroes. Add to this the colorful fantasy on an unforgettable theme by the English Renaissance master Thomas Tallis. It was penned by his compatriot Ralph Vaughan Williams, who is one of the greats of the 20th century and is still underestimated in this country. Maestro Dennis Russell Davies will conduct this varied and complex concert evening.

Antonín Dvořák - Othello, Concert Tour, Op. 93
Erich Wolfgang Korngold - Concerto for violin and orchestra, D major, op. 35
Ralph Vaughn Williams - Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis
Leos Janácek - Taras Bulba
