The Oulu Symphony celebrates the centenary of Sir Malcolm Arnold . Arnold, who died in 2006, is considered one of the most important English composers of the 20th century, regardless of genre. His extensive production covers several styles from concert halls to opera, ballet and of course films. To the attention of the general public, he rose to the classic film Bridge of the River Kwai with his compositions , for whose music he was awarded both an Oscar and a Grammy in 1957.

The concert provides a unique opportunity to hear a comprehensive cross-section of Malcolm Arnold’s diverse music. With the tour, which will cover the localities of Northern Ostrobothnia, the orchestra's next chief conductor Rumon Gamba will take off his season with a program about which he is best known.
