Hollywood History
Banda Sinfónica Portuguesa conducted by José Rafael Pascual Vilaplana - Casa da Música, Sala Suggia

Program Info:
The Portuguese Symphonic Band celebrates the seventh art under the direction of its chief guest conductor, playing composers who have marked Hollywood's musical history. This journey into the world of moving images begins with an emblematic soundtrack by Harold Arlen: who doesn't know "Somewhere Over The Rainbow", one of the many memorable songs from the film The Wizard of Oz, from the late 30's. A few years later, Bernard Herrmann made history with his work for the revolutionary film Citizen Kane, by abandoning the idea of constant music throughout the film. In the 1960s comes the score of The Magnificent Seven, written by the American Elmer Bernstein. To close, a contemporary composition for a 1916 film: Charlie Chaplin's Pawnshop gets a new life with music composed by the Spaniard Antón Alcalde.

Harold Arlen & E.Y. Harbourg (arr. J. Barnes) - The Wizard of Oz
Bernard Herrmann (arr. R. Hastings) - Citizen Kane
Elmer Bernstein (arr. M. Peeters) - The Magnificent Seven
Antón Alcalde - The Pawnshop
