Guro Kleven Hagen plays Korngold
Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra conducted by Roderick Cox - Konsertsalen

Program Info:
Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra
Roderick Cox, conductor
Solist: Guro Kleven Hagen, violin

Norwegian star Guro Kleven Hagen is a soloist in Wolfgang Korngold's melodic
and easily accessible violin concerto, based on themes from his excellent career in Hollywood. With communicating tonal language, John Adams has managed to get new generations to listen to contemporary music. Dr. Atomic Symphony is compressed from the opera about Robert Oppenheimer and the work that took place in Los Alamos in connection with the nuclear test explosion in 1945. The concert begins with
Samuel Barber's musical essay which offers a variety of colors, moods
and expressions. The African-American Pulitzer Prize winner in music George Walker,
the composer of the quiet and thoughtful, but also powerful Lyric for Strings, was a role model for many musicians. This also applies to the highest degree to tonight's conductor Roderick Cox, winner of the Sir Georg Solti Conductor Award 2018.

Samuel Barber : Essay No. 2 (1942)
Erich Wolfgang Korngold : Violin Concerto (1945), the concerto has themes from the scores for the movies ANOTHER DAWN (1937), ANTHONY ADVERSE (1936) & THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER (1937)
George Walker : Lyric for Strings (1946)
John Adams : Dr. Atomic Symphony (2007)
