Film+MusikFest: Menschen am Sonntag
Uwe Dierksen Quartett - Rudolf-Oetker-Halle
Program Info: Following the remark attributed to Billy Wilder about the art of directing: "Always start with an explosion, and then increase very slowly!", the 31st FMF starts with the world premiere of a newly composed music by Uwe Dierksen, trombonist in the renowned Ensemble Modern, Frankfurt, in cooperation with arte.
With the dream team Robert Siodmak, Edgar C. Ulmer and Billy Wilder, this cinematic masterpiece of the New Objectivity brings together the most prominent and important representatives of Weimar cinema. The film depicts the lives of young people in the metropolis of Berlin in a semi-documentary collage of play scenes and social reportage. The precise, authentic observations from the milieu of white-collar culture seem like a historical document from today's perspective. The film's style of staging, which develops its episodes from the flair of the original locations and the spontaneous self-portrayal of its amateur actors, influenced poetic realism in France in the 1930s and had a stylistic influence on Italian neorealism.
