Anyone who has ever heard the brass and percussion ensemble So Brass knows how communicative the complicity and energy of this ensemble of ONPL musicians is.
For this evening, the musicians take us on a transatlantic journey. From Samuel Barber to the film music of John Williams and the jazzy sounds of Gershwin and Ellington, American music is a journey tinged with the Great Plains, bustling cities, dreams and cinema. This American dream echoes that of the exiled composers who found a promised land in America. Thus, in the second half of the programme, Dvorak's evocation of the lost country blends with the jazz of Chick Corea, the music of the unclassifiable Frank Zappa and the folklore of Irish and Yiddish tunes. Joyful and festive, sometimes tinged with nostalgia, this music without borders tells us the story of mankind with humour and derision.
