Bielefelder Philharmoniker conducted by Bernd Wilden - Rudolf-Oetker-Halle, Großer Saal
Program Info: Showpeople (Es tut sich was in Hollywood) USA 1928 King Vidor, director With Marion Davies and William Haines Carl Davis, music
When Peggy Pepper, who has become famous as a comedy starlet, changes her name to Patricia Pepoire in a fit of megalomania, the unstoppable descent of a Hollywood actress begins ... Vaguely following the life story of silent film diva Gloria Swanson, King Vidor created a brilliant satire on the dream factory. In the last year of silent cinema, the film reflects satirically and lovingly at the same time on the genre of slapstick, the star system and Hollywood in general. The All Star Movie not only shows Charlie Chaplin as an autograph hunter at Marion Davies'; in the most famous scene of the film, the entire Hollywood celebrities of the time gather at a lunch in the fictitious studio Peggy Peppers: Douglas Fairbanks, Mae Murray, Norma Talmadge and John Gilbert, among others. Stars like Mary Pickford and Gloria Swanson also appear as themselves, and even King Vidor can be seen in a scene towards the end as King Vidor.
A concert by the Bielefeld Philharmonic Orchestra as part of the 31st Film+MusicFest of the Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau Society Bielefeld.
