Charlot soldat / The adventurer - Cine-Concert
Orchestre Régional de Normandie conducted by Jean Deroyer - Neufchâtel En Bray-76 Théâtre

Program Info:
This cine-concert programme offers the opportunity to see and hear two films by the famous Charlie Chaplin. In the first part, the short film Charlot s'évade (1917), a particularly fast-paced film, imbued with Chaplin's choreographic grace, is set to music by Cyrille Aufort with a score written for the musicians of the Orchestre Régional de Normandie. In the second part, the Orchestra performs for the first time the music composed by Chaplin in 1918 for the film Charlot soldat. In an American army training camp, new recruits are preparing to go to the front in France. Charlot is a poor soldier who is exhausted by the manoeuvres. As soon as the exercise is over, he throws himself on his cot, falls asleep and dreams... With this film, which has become one of his greatest successes, Charlie Chaplin proves once again how fine the line between comedy and tragedy is. Underlining the intensity of the images, the Orchestre Régional de Normandie, accustomed to the scores of the seventh art, performs live the tender and humorous music composed by Chaplin himself.
