Mostra de València-Cinema del Mediterrani: Film Music Concert
Jean-Michel Bernard & Kimiko Ono - Palau de la Música

Program Info:
Jean-Michel Bernard, keyboards
Kimiko Ono, singer

The 36th edition of Mostra de València-Cinema del Mediterrani, which will be held from October 15 to 24, will be attended by the prestigious French pianist and composer Jean-Michel Bernard. His most important soundtracks include his collaborations with director Michel Gondry in "The Science of Sleep", "Rewind, Please" or "Human Nature", as well as his participation in "The Invention of Hugo", by Martin Scorsese.

The musician will offer a concert in l'Almodí on October 17, in which he will be accompanied by the Japanese singer Kimiko Ono and will review his own compositions and material from other giants of film music, such as Lalo Schifrin , with whom he is joined by a great personal and professional friendship. The performance is part of the expanded program of the Mostra de València and is part of the festival's collaboration agreement with the Palau de la Música. In addition, Bernard will give a masterclass on film music composition and will be part of the international jury of the festival.

“A film is an ensemble in which music is an extremely important part, to the point that in French law the composer is listed as the third author of the film,” recently pointed out Bernard, who began to study piano at the same time. He was two years old and has collaborated with Claude Chabrol, Ennio Morricone, Francis Veber, Etienne Chatiliez, Fanny Ardant or the mythical Ray Charles , with whom he worked regularly playing the organ and piano on various tours of Australia and Europe, in which he also was in charge of the arrangements and the musical direction.

“The presence at the Mostra of an artist of the category of Jean-Michel Bernard represents a new commitment of the festival to film music, which is added to the already traditional concert that the Municipal Symphonic Band of València ”, declared Gloria Tello , president of the Mostra de València and Audiovisual Initiatives organization.

After recording with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London at the age of nineteen, Bernard worked as the musical director of France Inter's popular radio show “L´Oreille en Coin”. In addition, he is the creator of the film music composition course at the Paris Conservatory and his most recent soundtracks include “Money”, by Géla Babluani, which won the Grand Prize at the 2018 Brussels Festival, and his score for "Ballad for a pierced heart" ( Yannis Economides, 2020), nominated for the awards given annually by the Greek Film Academy. In 2017 he received the award given by SACEM (Société des auteurs, compositeurs et éditeurs de musique) and was officially designated a “Steinway Artist”.
