26 January 2022 Paris (France)
Orchestre de Paris conducted by Timothy Brock - Philharmonie de Paris, Grande salle Pierre Boulez
Program Info: Fantasia remains a fascinating visual and sound experience. Because it is indeed around music, with the Philadelphia Orchestra and its conductor, Léopold Stokowski, in the front line, that this narrative suite was developed. The seven sequences of Fantasia , some of which are legendary, constitute a great book of illustration of famous musical pages, but unequally "narrative". There is of course the power of the transcription of Bach's Toccata and fugue for organ in D minor , which was to be associated by Hollywood with angst and "gothic" atmospheres, but how can we forget Mickey's struggle against a broom tide on the Sorcerer's Apprentice by Paul Dukas, the telluric and primitivist sequences on the harshness of the Rite of Spring by Stravinsky, the evocation of the gods and creatures of Antiquity, so dear to Beethoven, on the accents of the Pastoral Symphony , or the metamorphosis of a demon mountain on Mussorgsky 's hectic Night on Bald Mountain , before Schubert ' s Ave Maria , like the southern dawn, dispels the Sabbath night? Never the Disney studios should not allow themselves so much "fantasy", nor sing such an ode to the orchestra.
Music by Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven, Paul Dukas, Modest Moussorgski, Amilcare Ponchielli, Franz Schubert, Igor Stravinsky, Piotr Ilitch Tchaikovsky
