Howard Blake - The Snowman

For many, the classic animation that brings a Christmas spirit to Snowman will delight you again in the program! Nostalgic animation is seen and heard accompanied by live music. Released in 1982, the music for the British animated film based on the story of Raymond Briggs was composed by Howard Blake. In Finland, the Snowman animation has been shown every Christmas Eve since 1992. The animated theme song Walking in the Air will be performed alternately by boy sopranoes Onni-Tapani Koskela and Mark Lak, and the film concert will be conducted by the rising French-Finnish conductor Aliisa Barrière.

The animation begins when a little boy builds a snowman on a snowy Christmas Eve. There’s the magic of Christmas in the air when a snowman turns alive at midnight. The memorable story follows the joyous moments of a boy and a snowman both at the boy’s home and at the snowmen’s secret party. The night adventure culminates together flying over the winter landscape in the delightful glow of the northern lights.

The duration of the snowman animation is 30 minutes, making it suitable for the whole family.

NOTE: 2 performances!
