The iconic soundtrack by John Williams performed live for the cult film from 1978
Hollywood's best-known superhero returns to the big screen with the film that started it all: “Superman” from 1978. Now the concert-goers can experience the “Man of Steel” in new splendour at the KKL Luzern, with the heroic film music by John Williams , played live by the City Light Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Anthony Gabriele.
The film by director Richard Donner tells of the inspiring origins of Superman. From his dramatic escape as an infant from the doomed planet Krypton, to his formative years on a farm in Smallville, Kansas, to his arrival in Metropolis, where he became a good-natured reporter Clark Kent and a mysterious “man of steel “Leads a double life.
In Donner's celebrated film adaptation, the young Christopher Reeve embodies the title hero, making him an international superstar. At his side are Margot Kidder as the intrepid reporter Lois Lane, Gene Hackman as the villain Lex Luthor and the inimitable Marlon Brando as Jor-El.
The soundtrack penned by five-time Oscar® winner John Williams is just as legendary as Superman himself. With the Superman March he composed one of the most striking film melodies of all. Accompanied by this fanfare, Superman is about to soar and the romantic love theme lets sparks fly between him and Lois.
