Program Info: Philip Glass - Dracula (1931)
If Tod Browing is not the first director to adapt Bram Stoker's text - Murnau preceded him with his Nosferatu the vampire-, however, it inaugurates a long line of films using the name of Count Dracula. The plot is known: Renfield, in charge of concluding a real estate transaction with Dracula, goes to his castle in Transylvania where the aristocrat, who turns out to be a vampire, will hypnotize him to put him under his orders. Embodying the title role, Bela Lugosi enters the legend and with it the Hungarian accent which will greatly contribute to the disturbing strangeness of the character. Very good arguments therefore to hold the attention of Philip Glass who composes the score. Created in 1988 by the famous Kronos Quartet, it will be performed here live, in front of the screen, by musicians from the Orchester symphonique de Mulhouse!
