Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone Live
Iceland Symphony Orchestra conducted by Timothy Henty - Harpa - Eldborg
Program Info: John Williams - Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone
This film concert in Eldborg Hall will feature one of the most beloved movies of recent times, with live music performed by the Iceland Symphony Orchestra. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, released in 2001, was the year’s top-selling film at the box office. The film brought worldwide fame to the young actors, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, and transformed author JK Rowling’s fantasy world into a living entity on the screen. The film was nominated for three Academy Awards and was followed by seven sequels released over a period of nine years.
Music plays a major role in the Harry Potter films, earning legendary composer John Williams a host of prizes. In the music, Williams uses leitmotifs to represent the main characters and locations, including the archenemy Voldemort, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the friendship theme, and the main theme, which is associated with the owl Hedwig.
Both the film and its inspiring score on a new dimension in this live performance by the Iceland Symphony, which accompanies the screening.
