Film saga Star Wars boasts several generations of fans. Launched in 1977, the celebrated science fiction series continues to be filmed to this day.
American composer and conductor John Williams (b 1932), the composer for this unending repertoire, is one of the world’s leading film music composers. He has written soundtracks for Schindler’s List, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Home Alone and Home Alone. Lost in New York as well as the first three Harry Potter films. Other works by Williams include theme music for four Olympic games. Williams has won five Academy Awards, four Golden Globe Awards, seven British Academy Film Awards and 21 Grammy Awards.
Music for Star Wars consists of a total of over 18 hours of music. Williams has written approximately fifty themes, which makes it a unique case in the history of film music. The US Library of Congress has included Star Wars soundtrack in the National Recording Registry as “culturally, historically, and aesthetically important” work. This concert offers The Star Wars Suite compiled by the composer himself.
