Orchestre national de Metz - Cité Musicale de Metz, Grande Salle
Program Info: Based on a grandiose theme by Henry Purcell, Benjamin Britten tells us about the orchestra and all its instruments through a series of variations and a fugue. Along with Peter and the Wolf and Le Carnaval des Animaux , The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra (1946) is one of the three most used scores for children's musical education. The work The Four Sea Interludes will complete this magnificent program dedicated to the British composer. Extracts from his opera Peter Grimes (1945), these four splendid symphonic interludes are among the most evocative of the sea ever written.
The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra, opus 34: composed in 1946 to accompany an educational film produced by the British government and featured in the Oscar-nominated film Moonlight Kingdom
