Orchestre National de Lille conducted by Ernst van Tiel - Auditorium du Nouveau Siècle
Program Info: Bernard Herrmann - Vertigo
Vertigo is undoubtedly the finest example of Hitchcock and Herrmann’s collaboration. From its opening prelude, the music transports us into a fascinating hall of mirrors oscillating between reality and fiction, love and obsession. The music’s lyricism, interpreted by the ONL, is worthy of Wagner’s Tristan and Isolde.
Bernard Herrmann is forever associated with Alfred Hitchcock. Of the seven films in which the two men collaborated, Vertigo (1958) is undoubtedly the most beautiful. Everything is sublime in this feature film: the plot inspired by a novel by Boileau-Narcejac, the special effects, the photography or the soundtrack of the film. From the prelude (on the magnificent credits of Saul Bass), Herrmann takes us on a fascinating game of mirror between fiction and reality, love and obsession. The ONL performs this unforgettable music, with lyricism worthy of Tristan and Isolde de Wagner. A dizzying cinema concert!
