In The Startled Ear of Night...
Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra - Benaroya Hall
This concert has been canceled.
Program Info: Jacques Offenbach - Overture, Orpheus in the Underworld Bernard Herrmann - Suite, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir Modest Mussorgsky - Night on Bald Mountain Giuseppe Tartini - Sonata for Violin and Orchestra, The Devil’s Trill Paul Dukas - The Sorcerer’s Apprentice
The Seattle Philharmonic opens its season with a “festive” concert celebrating Halloween, presenting appropriate music both cheerful and chilling. Perennial favorites Night on Bald Mountain and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice share the bill with Offenbach’s overture to Orpheus in the Underworld (the most rollicking depiction of Hades in music, complete with can-can) and a suite from The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, Bernard Herrmann’s personal favorite of his many film scores. The Philharmonic’s esteemed concertmaster Luke Fitzpatrick is the featured soloist in a new orchestral setting of Tartini’s Sonata in G minor, “The Devil’s Trill”.
