The shadows of Maurice Maeterlinck's play haunt Pelléas et Mélisande by Schoenberg. Fascinated, like all his generation, by the lyrical and mysterious theater of the Belgian writer, Schoenberg invents for the orchestra a twilight romance. This ode to the last impulses of romanticism is combined with the Violin Concerto by Korngold, beautifully embodied by the Latvian violinist Baiba Skride.
