Mikis Theodorakis Orchestra - Hugenottenhalle
Program Info: Miki Theodorakis Orchestra Alexandros Karozas, singing, bouzouki, musical direction Spyros koutsovasilis, singing Sofia Papazoglou, singing Margarita Theodorakis, artistic director
Mikis Theodorakis, born on the island of Chios in 1925, is a composer, writer and politician - he is one of the best-known Greek composers of the 20th century. His film scores for "Alexis Zorbas", "Z" and "Serpico" in particular, as well as the setting of the "Canto General" based on the verses by Pablo Neruda, have received a lot of worldwide attention. His oeuvre, which spans over a thousand works, includes symphonic compositions and a large number of songs.
From »Z« to »Zorbas«! »My whole life was an eternal struggle between ideal and reality, everyday life and vision.« Mikis Theodorakis is the political icon and musical ambassador of his country - he still interferes, powerfully in word and deed. On the occasion of his 95th year of birth, his orchestra dedicates a concert to him, centered on his most important songs as well as the moving melodies from films and, of course, the legendary »Zorbas«.
