Philharmonic Biennale ‒ Silent Film Concert
Members of the Berliner Philharmoniker conducted by Raphael Haeger - Friedrichsstadtpalast
This concert has been canceled.
Program Info: “Why don’t you make a film about Berlin – without a story?” It was allegedly a casual question that inspired director Walter Ruttmann to make a cinematic masterpiece. His silent film recounts in minute detail a day in the life of the former capital of the German Reich. We encounter labourers, office workers and schoolchildren, observe councillors of commerce going about their business, follow models on the runway and see beggars in abject poverty. Ruttmann’s camera is always close by. The music was written by the celebrated film composer Edmund Meisel and will be played live by members of the Berliner Philharmoniker. Roll it!
