Lise de la Salle Plays Gershwin French Flair Meets New York Jazz
Singapore Symphony Orchestra conducted by John Axelrod - Esplanade Concert Hall
Program Info: Singapore Symphony Orchestra John Axelrod, conductor Lise de la Salle, piano
French pianist extraordinaire Lise de la Salle is in the spotlight in Gershwin’s atmospheric Piano Concerto in F, originally called the New York Concerto. Smoked with jazz and lit by Broadway, it liberates, it reinvigorates.
The highly versatile John Axelrod conducts the SSO, who will also showcase Korngold’s monumental Symphony evoking the Romantic spirit of his European forerunners. Singapore’s own Kelly Tang is represented by his pioneering work, the exciting Apocalypso.
“De la Salle’s articulation is exceptionally clear: if she were an opera singer, you would say that her diction was perfect.” Bachtrack
Program: Kelly Tang - Apocalypso George Gershwin - Concerto in F for Piano and Orchestra
- Intermission -
Erich Wolfgnag Korngold - Symphony in F-sharp major, Op. 40, uses themes from ELIZABETH & ESSEX and CAPTAIN BLOOD in its slow movement and a theme from KINGS ROW in the finale.
