Waseda Symphony Orchestra
Waseda Symphony Orchestra conducted by Kiyotaka Teraoka - Alte Oper, Großer Saal
Occidental orchestral culture meets archaic drum art from the Far East: when the Japanese Waseda Symphony Orchestra comes to the Alte Oper, the set also includes a set of Japanese taiko drums in addition to the classical orchestral instruments. The orchestra, which is based at the Waseda University in Tokyo, finally feels at home in both soundscapes. And so the young musicians, who have already accepted the invitation to the Alte Oper five times, not only bring compositions by Strauss and Korngold to the Great Hall, but also a work that directly combines the traditional drums with the classic orchestral sound faced. “Hi-Ten-Yu”, “Salvation from Heaven” is the title of the concert for taiko and orchestra by the Japanese composer Isao Matsushita. The solo part is taken over by Taiko master Eitetsu Hayashi, to whom Matsushita wrote the work in the mallet.
Richard Wagner - Prelude and "love death" from "Tristan and Isolde" Erich Wolfgang Korngold - Violin Concerto in D major op.35, the concerto has themes from the scores for the movies ANOTHER DAWN (1937), ANTHONY ADVERSE (1936) & THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER (1937) Richard Strauss - Don Juan op.20 Isao Matsushita - Hi-Ten-Yu (A Concerto for Japanese Drum and Orchestra)
