Family ciné-concert: Fantasia
Orchestre de Paris conducted by Anna Rakitina - Philharmonie de Paris, Grande salle Pierre Boulez
Program Info: Fantasia Disney Studios Movie With music by Bach, Tchaikovsky, Dukas, Stravinsky, Beethoven, Ponchielli, Moussorgski, Schubert
The seven sequences of Fantasia , some of which are legendary, constitute a large book of illustration of famous musical pages, but unequally "narrative". There is of course the power of the transcription of the Toccata and fugue for organ in D minor by Bach, which was to be associated by Hollywood with anguish and "Gothic" atmospheres, but how can we forget Mickey's fight against an army of brooms on the apprentice sorcerer of Paul Dukas, the telluric and primitivist sequences on the harshness of the coronation of the spring of Stravinsky, the evocation of the gods and creatures of Antiquity, so dear to Beethoven, on the accents of the Symphony pastoral, or the metamorphosis of a demon mountain on the hectic Night on the bald mount of Moussorgski, before the Ave Maria de Schubert, like the southern dawn, dissipates the Sabbath night? Disney studios never had to allow themselves so much “fantasy”, nor to sing such an ode to the orchestra.
