Kurt Weill - Threepenny Opera Suite (1928) Sergey Prokofiev - Lieutenant Kijé (1934) based on the score of the 1934 movie by Aleksandr Faintsimmer Kurt Weill - Songs (1920s, 30s, 40s) Erich Wolfganf Korngold - Suite from Captain Blood
Celebrate the 1930s in a 3-program exploration of the decade’s best music. These concerts, lead by former Music Director Andreas Delfs, feature a sweeping Oscar-nominated cinematic score by Hollywood’s Korngold, as well as a collection of songs by Weill: a collection of his popular songs and a suite from his musical theater gem Threepenny Opera (listen for “Mack the Knife”). Prokofiev sought a wider audience with his music for the satirical film Lieutenant Kijé; this infectious suite has proven to be one of the composer’s most-performed works.
