With André Kuipers to the moon
André Kuipers and the Flanders Symphony Orchestra will take you on a magical space trip to the moon, where exactly 50 years ago - on 20 July 1969 - people landed for the first time. Images, stories and music by Richard Strauss, John Williams and more.
André Kuipers saw the universe as few saw it: from space. During two missions he circled the earth - and thus also saw the moon up close. Kuipers is the leading speaker for the golden jubilee of the first moon landing. Because exactly 50 years ago - on July 20, 1969 - that "small step" of Neil Armstrong took place. With the Flanders Symphony Orchestra, Kuipers takes you on a space journey full of discoveries.
50 years after the first moon landing In an online logbook André Kuipers shared the music he played during his space missions. On Mission Day 115 (13-04-2012) that was James Horner's iconic soundtrack at Apollo 13 . Today, the Symphony Orchestra Flanders plays this and other 'space' music. You see Strauss's awe-inspiring Also sprach Zarathustra rising in the sun, and traveling with John Williams through the atmosphere. There are odes to the moon of Debussy and Dvořák. André Kuipers shows special images of the moon landing, and tells about it as only he can. Experience the power and emotion of this 'giant leap for mankind'.
