Noord Nederlands Orkest conducted by Damian Iorio - De Lawei
Program Info: Who thinks of The Godfather, immediately thinks of the compelling melodies of Nino Rota. To be honest, the music of Nino Rota plays at least as important a role in the films as Marlon Brando and Al Pacino. In this film program, Godfather music once again plays the leading role, with of course classics such as The Immigrant, Love Theme and Godfather's Waltz.
Rota wrote the music especially for this film trilogy, just as John Williams wrote the music for five of the eight episodes of Star Wars. The Noord Nederlands Orkest plays the most famous themes from it.
Sometimes directors do not make music, but they use existing classical music. A wonderful but strong combination is for example Funeral Music for Queen Mary by 17th century composer Purcell in A Clockwork Orange by Stanley Kubrick. And the enchanting ballet music The Swan Lake of Tchaikovsky from 1877 suddenly got a creepy connotation in the horror film Black Swan with Natalie Portman about 130 years later.
The presentation of this film program is in the hands of the Dutch moviestar and founder of film platform Cinetree, Hanna Verboom. She has played in various Dutch and American films, such as the romantic comedy Snowfever and Deuce Bigalow - European Gigolo, and well-known TV series such as De Co-assistant and Feuten.
