15 December 2023 Frankfurt, Oder (Germany)
4th Philharmonic Concert – Hollywood Symphony
Brandenburgisches Staatsorchester Frankfurt conducted by Bernd Ruf - Konzerthalle «Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach« – Großer Saal
Program Info: Brandenburgisches Staatsorchester Frankfurt Bernd Ruf, conductor Anke Sieloff, mezzo-soprano
At this concert we play some of the most popular film scores of all time. We present the classic of Western soundtracks par excellence - Elmer Bernstein's music for the film »The Magnificent Seven«. We take you on a murderous train journey with Richard Rodney Bennett, which is sometimes accompanied by innocently jazzy, sometimes by spooky, suspenseful sequences and introduces the gifted actor and director Charles Chaplin as the composer. But we also play some of the latest film music hits with catchy quality: from "Pirates of the Caribbean", "Harry Potter" and the DreamWorks blockbuster "Puss in Boots". Henry Jackman wrote a very spirited theme tune for this strip.
With Herman Hupfeld's "As Time Goes By", Harold Arlen's "Over The Rainbow" and two songs by Michel Legrand from the film "Yentl" you will also hear immortal cinema hits sung by Anke Sieloff. Even as a child, she was fascinated by the golden era of Hollywood musicals.
She studied classical singing in her hometown of Stuttgart and has sung many major roles from the baroque to contemporary opera, has performed very successfully in many musicals and operettas and is returning to her old love with this »Hollywood Symphony« conceived by Bernd Ruf - the Film music – back.
The conductor has made a name for himself with his border crossings between symphonic music, rock, jazz and world music. He was also celebrated by critics and audiences for his film music concerts. He has often worked with the BSOF. Among other things, he led the sold-out concerts of the BSOF Big Band and recorded the music for the ZDF multi-part series »Ku'damm 63« with the Brandenburg State Orchestra.
